From the Oval Office
Hello again everyone from the Oval Office. It’s been a very dry, unseasonably mild month. We even had a brush fire not a mile from my QTH that burnt ten acres.

The SCARC storage trailer continues to make progress but at a slightly slower pace. Insulation, windows, shelves, tables and anchor points have been installed. Indoor/Outdoor carpeting and a new 2M radio with integrated TNC has arrived. The trailer has come a long way and will be a great asset to our club for storage, special events, the Hamfest and Field Day.

We will be having an Executive Committee before the May meeting to discuss and organize upcoming late spring and summer events. One of these events will occur at our next club meeting on April 20th when we will be showing off the new club trailer in the parking lot of the Legion Hall. On April 21st a work party is planned at the repeater site. We are looking for help from the membership to do a lot of weed whacking and general cleanup of the site. So if you’re around on the 21st we could really use the help. Then on May 12th we might use the trailer to operate the ARRL 6M Sprint on May 12th at a location that is TBD. Then on May 18th at our clubs regular meeting Nick KC2VWI and Rob KC2WCQ will be showing off their military communications vehicle. This should be a treat. Then of course in June we have the VHF Contest and Field Day.

Ralph WR2Q provided me some good information on Ham Radio and Computer Live Internet Streaming shows. Check out http://live.twit.tv - Live feed, pre-show begins around 8:45PM and the show at 9PM ET every Tuesday with Bob and Gordo. The archives of older shows are at: http://twit.tv/show/ham-nation. You also might be interested in the Radio Tech show which is geared towards broadcast radio but the hosts are all hams and the information is RF and engineering related. That show is live on Wednesdays at 8PM ET and the archive of shows is here: http://twit.tv/show/this-week-in-radio-tech.

I mentioned last month about some pretty good flares and Solar Flux numbers. Well I must have jinxed the sun because numbers are way down. At this writing the SF was 93 and the Smooth Sunspot Number was 28. Pretty stinky for a cycle that’s supposed to be increasing.

Weekly On-Air Meetings
There is a weekly SCARC VHF rag-chew and idea trading on the W2LV repeater frequency 147.300 MHz EVERY Tuesday at 8:00 pm. Newcomers? New to a certain aspect of radio? Experienced operator willing to share in the growth of the hobby? All are welcome and encouraged.

NEW!! We are having a great time on our 75M net on 3.962MHz +/- QRM on Thursday nights. It’s fun getting off the repeater for a change and getting on to HF. This net allows us to experiment with different equipment, antennas and modes of operation to determine what works and doesn’t work at our home station. All topics are open for discussion. Even if you only want to listen, please join us.
