From the Oval Office
Hello again everyone from the Oval Office. It looks like the ground hog was right; spring has arrived early.

The SCARC storage trailer has seen huge improvements and tasks continue to get accomplished. Insulation, windows, shelves and anchor points have been installed. Indoor/Outdoor carpeting and a new 2M radio with integrated TNC is soon to be integrated. The trailer has come a long way and will be a great asset to our club for storage, special events, the Hamfest and Field Day.

We had an Executive Committee meeting last week. We discussed the budget and this year’s events. The new SCARC website and the SCARC-L email reflector were discussed too. We also brought up the need to have more members of SCARC join the technical committee. If you’re interested, please contact N2HMM or N2WM.

The first shot gun email was sent out to all the potential buyers and sells about our Hamfest on July 15th.

On April 21st a work party is planned at the repeater site. We are looking for help from the membership to do a lot of weed whacking and general cleanup of the site. So if you’re around on the 21st we could really use the help.

There’s been some pretty good solar flares that have disrupted HF communications. They haven’t been strong enough to produce an Aurora Borealis this far south thus far. However always keep an eye to the northern sky because it could occur at almost anytime. Solar activity should be pretty active for the next three years or so and propagation on 10 and 15M should be very good.

We’ll be having another Executive Committee meeting probably in May to discuss the VHF Contest, Field Day and the Hamfest. We’ll also address doing other contests such as CQWW-Phone, Sweep Stakes and the 10M Contest.

Don’t forget, we have a SCARC meeting this Friday at the American Legion. Cherryville has their Hamfest this Saturday and the big Splitrock Hamfest is on March 24th in Roxbury. Splitrock is a good one to go to.

Weekly On-Air Meetings
There is a weekly SCARC VHF rag-chew and idea trading on the W2LV repeater frequency 147.300 MHz EVERY Tuesday at 8:00 pm. Newcomers? New to a certain aspect of radio? Experienced operator willing to share in the growth of the hobby? All are welcome and encouraged.

NEW!! We are having a great time on our 75M net on 3.962MHz +/- QRM on Thursday nights. It’s fun getting off the repeater for a change and getting on to HF. This net allows us to experiment with different equipment, antennas and modes of operation to determine what works and doesn’t work at our home station. All topics are open for discussion. Even if you only want to listen, please join us.
